Leading for Results

Over the past few years, we have been focused on developing strategies and our leadership capacity to ensure we lead for resultsDC KIDS COUNT helps us track our city's collective progress towards our lofty goal: to improve the lives of DC children.

We are making incremental progress, yet we have much more work to do to ensure that all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential. While DC has one of the highest rates of health insurance coverage in the nation and more children attend PreK than any other state, there are significant racial and ethnic disparities in health and education outcomes. Recently, I have spent a lot of time considering how systems work to impact the lives of children in our city and what we can do to support the youngest residents.

With the current headlines, I am reminded how hard our work for institutional change can truly be. Improving outcomes for DC children and youth will require meaningful changes in policy and practice -- this will take time and courage to take some strategic risks.

Many of our new projects are focused on building stronger coordination and alignment of systems and programs that serve DC children. Over the coming months I look forward to detailing our new and current projects focused on results.  We are ready! Are you with us?
