BB Otero named Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services
This morning, Mayor Gray announced the appointment of Beatriz 'BB' Otero as the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services. BB's appointment may be a boon to the early care and education field. She is the founder and president of CentroNia, which began as a small child care center housed in a church in Columbia Heights and now has grown into a bilingual center and a full-fledged charter school, serving more than 3,000 children.
CentroNia's approach is rooted in educating and strengthening families in multiculutral communities. As such, CentroNia is a hub of the community, providing services and support for youth and families, including literacy classes, counseling services and a food and nutrition program.
DC Action for Children congratulates BB Otero on this exciting and challenging new post. We look forward to working with her and her staff on behalf of D.C.'s youngest citizens.
